Netflix accounts for about 15% of the world's internet bandwidth traffic. Netflix operates in two clouds Amazon Web Services and Open Connect (Netflix content delivery network) The overall Netflix system consists of three main parts. Zuul as its API gateway is built to allow dynamic routing, traffic monitoring, and security, resilience to The Netty handlers on the front and back of the filters.

These are always super interesting but I doubt I’ll ever need to handle anywhere near 15% of the world’s traffic anytime soon :D.

Very interesting. And this gives you an idea of how complex a software architecture needs to be to serve 15% of the world’s traffic.
I like the idea of Chaos Monkey at Netflix, a service which randomly kills a server from production, and Chaos Kong, which kills an entire AWS region! I can only imagine the kind of debugging and redeployment which follow such events if they cause some kind of outage.
This is what I call living on the cutting edge :-)

Interesting. Wonder if there’s the same for Youtube. I’m always amazed how optimized and fast their CDN is.
My net is spotty so there are times sites wouldn’t even load however a Youtube video can play, even if it’s just the video while literally eveything else on page won’t load such as menu bars, comments and suggestions. It’s amazing how optimize they are.
I can only know when my net is dead is when my YT wont play or buffers.
