The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched its first commercial hardware product, SilentGlass, a small device that blocks malicious data transfer over HDMI and DisplayPort cables. Developed by NCSC and licensed to Goldilock Labs (in partnership with Sony UK), the device has already been deployed across UK government estates. It detects and blocks any malicious traffic in the display cable's data channel, protecting against attacks including EDID/CEC exploits and electromagnetic interception techniques like Deep-TEMPEST. While the security community has questioned how common such attacks are in practice, the NCSC argues monitors are an attractive espionage target, particularly in critical national infrastructure contexts. Pricing has not been disclosed, and technical details remain sparse.
