NASA demolished two historic test stands at Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama on January 10, 2026. The T-tower (built 1957) and Dynamic Test Stand (built 1964) were crucial for testing Saturn V rockets and Space Shuttle components during the Apollo era and beyond. The T-tower conducted static rocket engine tests, while the 105-meter Dynamic Test Stand subjected fully assembled Saturn V rockets to simulated flight stresses. Both structures, designated National Historic Landmarks in 1985, were demolished as part of removing 19 obsolete facilities to modernize the campus. NASA preserved their legacy through detailed documentation in the Library of Congress and high-resolution digital models created using LiDAR and 360-degree photography.
