This post compares the performance of NFS, SMB, and SSHFS for network file shares on Linux, using both sequential and random benchmarks. The tests were conducted on a server with an older Intel i3 CPU and Fedora 30, over a local Gigabit Ethernet network. Findings suggest NFS performs best without encryption, while SSHFS is optimal for encrypted transfers. SMB trails slightly but remains a viable option, particularly in mixed Windows/Linux environments.
