Namecheap shut down a startup's domain (thejuggernaut.com) due to an Indian trademark dispute, despite a US court ruling in the founder's favor. The company then personally sued the founder after she obtained a restraining order to recover her domain. The case highlights systemic risks in domain registration: registrars can suspend domains "at any time for any reason" per their terms, spam lists can destroy businesses through false flags, and the separation between registries and registrars creates multiple failure points. Recommendations include using registrars that make money elsewhere (Cloudflare, Vercel), care about reputation, and admit mistakes (Porkbun). Avoid registrars whose primary income is domain margins (GoDaddy, Namecheap) and country-code TLDs with unpredictable governance.
