A governance crisis unfolded in the Ruby ecosystem when Ruby Central removed four RubyGems maintainers in September 2025 without following established policies. The author expresses lost trust in Ruby Central and key Ruby core team members, particularly regarding accountability and governance. In response, disenfranchised maintainers launched gem.coop as an alternative gem repository. The author is contributing to alternative tooling including ore (a faster GoLang-based gem installer), setup-ruby-flash (a GitHub Action alternative), and appraisal2, while reducing reliance on Ruby org projects.
