Mozilla has announced its decision to phase out Pocket and Fakespot as part of its strategic shift to allocate resources toward enhancing Firefox and developing new internet tools. Pocket, a read-it-later app that was integrated into Firefox, will cease its operations on July 8, 2025. Users will have until October 8, 2025, to export their saved content. During this period, Pocket’s browser extensions will be removed from stores, and users will need to manually delete existing app installations. Pocket Premium subscribers will receive refunds.
Similarly, Fakespot, an AI-powered review service acquired by Mozilla in 2023, will be discontinued by July 2025. The discontinuation is attributed to sustainability challenges.
These changes are influenced by evolving web usage trends, as Mozilla intends to focus on improving web browsing experiences through new features like Tab Groups, enhanced bookmarks, vertical tabs, smart search, and AI-powered tools. The company also aims to enhance the New Tab experience and adapt its offerings to better meet current browsing habits.
Additionally, Mozilla’s newsletter Pocket Hits will be rebranded to “Ten Tabs,” highlighting curated content, as part of these broader restructuring efforts to generate revenue and improve user experience.
