22-year-old Evan Tangeman was sentenced to 70 months in prison for laundering $3.5 million tied to a $230 million cryptocurrency heist. The heist targeted a Genesis crypto exchange creditor in August 2024, with attackers using spoofed phone numbers, impersonating Google and Gemini support, and tricking the victim into sharing their screen via AnyDesk to steal Bitcoin Core private keys. The stolen funds were laundered through crypto mixers, peel chains, and pass-through wallets. Fourteen suspects total have been charged in a RICO conspiracy, with the group spending lavishly on Lamborghinis, private jets, and nightclub tabs up to $500,000 per evening.
