Modern smart projectors have shifted from lamp-based hardware to LED/laser light sources, solving the old lamp lifespan problem. However, a new and largely unacknowledged issue has emerged: projector OEMs bundle Android-based smart TV platforms into their devices but offer no clear software support commitments. Unlike smartphone brands that promise 5-7 years of OS and security updates, projector manufacturers rarely guarantee any Android version updates. This means the real end-of-life for a modern projector is now determined by software abandonment rather than hardware failure, and rooting to extend support risks bricking proprietary firmware routines for autofocus, keystone correction, and obstacle avoidance.
