The National Academy of Sciences has elected 16 MIT affiliates for 2026, including six faculty members and 10 alumni. Faculty honorees are economist Bengt Holmström (Nobel laureate in contract theory), neuroscientist Michale Fee (birdsong and motor learning), mechanical engineer Gareth McKinley (rheology and complex fluids), chemist Keith Nelson (time-resolved optical studies), neuroscientist Fan Wang (brain-body circuits), and energy economist Catherine Wolfram (energy markets and climate policy). The NAS, founded in 1863, is one of the highest honors in science.
