Microsoft is reportedly planning to rebase Azure Linux (formerly CBL-Mariner) on Fedora Linux. Evidence comes from a Fedora Enterprise Linux Next SIG meeting log, where it was explicitly stated that Azure wants to rebase Azure Linux on Fedora and needs x86_64-v3 support for performance. A Microsoft Linux engineer is co-authoring the Fedora 45 x86_64-v3 package change proposal, and Microsoft may donate compute resources to support the effort.
