Microsoft is backporting improvements from the open-source Windows Terminal project directly into conhost.exe, the underlying engine powering Command Prompt. Key additions include regex support in the Find dialog for pattern-based searching, up to 10x scrolling performance improvements, an optional GPU-accelerated Atlas/Direct3D rendering path (enabled via registry key), bold font rendering, and redesigned F7/F2/F4 menus with better accessibility. While Windows Terminal has had these features for years, the update matters because conhost is still used by legacy scripts, enterprise tools, and recovery environments where Terminal isn't available.
