Microsoft has launched Foundry Toolboxes in public preview, a feature that lets teams define AI agent tools once, configure authentication centrally, and expose everything through a single MCP-compatible endpoint. Instead of each agent team wiring its own tools with separate credentials and auth models, Toolboxes provide a reusable, versioned bundle accessible to any MCP-compatible agent runtime — including LangGraph, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot. The feature addresses credential sprawl, inconsistent governance, and integration bottlenecks in enterprise AI agent deployments. Currently, Build and Consume lifecycle pillars are available, while Discover and Govern capabilities are still on the roadmap. Analysts note that the strategic value depends heavily on those upcoming governance features.
