Microsoft has developed a new family of four-dimensional geometric error correction codes that significantly improve quantum computing reliability. These codes require fewer physical qubits per logical qubit, can detect errors in a single shot, and achieve a 1,000-fold reduction in error rates. The technology is integrated into Microsoft's Quantum compute platform and has been successfully demonstrated with Atom Computing's neutral-atom qubits, creating up to 28 logical qubits with error detection and correction capabilities during computation.
