Meta has disclosed four previously unannounced custom AI chips in its MTIA series (300, 400, 450, and 500), developed in partnership with Broadcom. The MTIA 400 is described as competitive with leading commercial products, while the 450 and 500 claim to outperform them on HBM bandwidth for generative AI inference. Some chips are already in production, with mass deployments of the 450 and 500 planned for 2027. Meta says it can now ship a new chip roughly every six months thanks to modular, reusable chiplet architecture. The piece also covers Meta's Oversight Board criticizing the company's failure to flag AI-generated disinformation during conflicts, and Meta's new 'location fees' for advertisers in six European countries to offset digital services taxes.
