A coalition of NGOs including ALQST, EFF, and Access Now condemns Meta for geo-blocking Facebook and Instagram accounts of human rights organizations, researchers, and activists in Saudi Arabia and the UAE since April 2026. Over 100 accounts have been restricted at the request of Gulf governments citing cybercrime laws. The organizations argue these restrictions violate freedom of expression, contradict Meta's own human rights policy, and demand Meta publish the legal requests, restore affected accounts, and explain its due diligence process.
