Successful indie game studios are launching their own funding initiatives to support other indie developers at a time when overall game industry investment has dropped dramatically. Innersloth (Among Us) created Outersloth in 2024, investing nearly $20 million across 24 games with transparent contract terms (50% revenue share pre-recoup, 15% after). Landfall (Peak) launched Evil Landfall, investing up to $1 million in a few games per year. Kinetic Games (Phasmophobia) started a publishing label supporting two to three games annually. These peer-funded initiatives are filling a gap left by the collapse of traditional game investment, which fell from $12 billion in 2021 to $2.4 billion in 2024.
