Utility-technology firm Itron and medical-device maker Medtronic have both disclosed cybersecurity breaches via SEC filings. Itron was notified of unauthorized access on April 13, has since remediated the intrusion, and expects insurance to cover a significant portion of costs. Medtronic confirmed unauthorized access to corporate IT systems following claims by the ShinyHunters extortion group, who allege they stole over 9 million PII records and terabytes of internal data, setting an April 21 payment deadline. Both companies say their core operations, products, and customer-facing systems were not impacted. The incidents follow a similar cyberattack on med-tech firm Stryker in March, attributed to an Iran-aligned threat actor.
