The WordPress core team is calling for community testing of the Media Editor Modal, an experimental Gutenberg feature that replaces the existing inline image cropper in the Block Editor. The modal introduces freeform and aspect-ratio cropping, flip, rotation, and metadata editing in a unified workflow. It is built on a custom WordPress-native cropping library rather than the existing react-easy-crop dependency. Testers can try it via WordPress Playground with Gutenberg Trunk. Feedback is sought on crop flow correctness, UX clarity, keyboard and touch accessibility, and metadata editing behavior.
