Piranha Games, developer of the MechWarrior series and subsidiary of Enad Global 7, has laid off 30% of its staff. CEO Russ Bullock confirmed the cuts on social media, correcting an earlier claim that 60% of staff were affected. The layoffs span multiple roles including writing, VFX, environment art, level design, and software engineering. This is the second round of cuts in over a year — in January 2025, 38 employees were let go following MechWarrior 5: Clans selling below expectations. The studio says it will continue working on DLC. The news comes amid a broader wave of game industry layoffs affecting Eidos Montreal, Crystal Dynamics, Ubisoft, Epic Games, and others.
