Datadog RUM now offers generally available mobile application launch monitoring for iOS and Android. It captures two industry-standard startup metrics—Time to Initial Display (TTID) and Time to Full Display (TTFD)—and classifies each measurement by launch type (cold, warm, or prewarmed on iOS). This replaces the older single `application_start` event that masked differences between launch paths. Teams can query slow startup events in the RUM Explorer, drill into individual sessions to find blocking network calls or heavy initialization work, and build dashboards, monitors, and SLOs around startup performance. TTID is collected automatically from SDK version 3.5.0+, while TTFD requires a simple API call to define when the app is fully ready.
