Mastodon updated its terms of service to explicitly prohibit AI model training and data scraping, following similar moves by X and other platforms. The new rules, effective July 1, apply only to the Mastodon.social server and include legal language banning automated data extraction systems. The platform also raised its minimum age requirement from 13 to 16 globally. However, since Mastodon operates on a decentralized network, other instances may still allow data scraping unless they implement similar restrictions.
