With our most recent project we also started with a VPS for less than $5. Hetzner offers great ARM instances with a lot of resources for the prices.
Multiple projects are running on it without issue. Of course we don’t have high visitor counts yet.
In combination with Cloudflare proxy and setting it to cache HTML pages, we hope it will stay like that for some time.

If you want your website download time to be slow asf depending on your locations. Then yes do that.
And if that one single server is down? Oh well guess your website is inaccessible for a while
