Analysis of submissions to ICLR 2026 revealed that 21% of peer reviews were fully AI-generated, with over half showing signs of AI use. Researchers flagged suspiciously verbose reviews with hallucinated citations and vague feedback. Pangram Labs scanned 75,800 reviews and 19,490 papers, finding 1% of manuscripts were fully AI-generated and 9% contained over 50% AI-generated text. Conference organizers will now use automated tools to assess policy violations, marking the first time the event has faced this issue at scale.
