Lucid Motors unveiled the Lunar, a two-passenger robotaxi concept designed for radical energy efficiency. Built on the same platform as its upcoming midsize Cosmos and Earth SUVs, the Lunar features a ~55 kWh battery and targets up to 9.7 km/kWh efficiency — nearly double that of a typical electric SUV — enabling over 500 km of range. By eliminating driver controls and optimizing for urban taxi use cases (90% of trips carry 1-2 passengers), Lucid claims the Lunar could cut operating costs by 40% versus larger retrofitted robotaxis like Waymo's Jaguar iPace. The concept is powered by Nvidia's Drive Thor SoC for Level 4/5 autonomy and integrates lidar, cameras, and radar. Lucid has an existing partnership with Uber to deploy up to 20,000 Gravity SUVs as robotaxis.
