Lua is so underrated

I find lua really lovely. Just the fact that I can spin up a TCP server and mess around with my backend projects, integrate it with nvim, write redis scripts is just great. I find it so much more concise than javascript. Its syntax is basic and that’s all you need, honestly.
Kind of wish that was the default language for the web. Or at least be an option for it. But since I don’t touch the frontend anymore, and frankly I try to avoid it as much as possible due to how insane the JS ecosystem is, I’m more than happy to use lua for all my fun little project needs.

Didn’t need to read to safely say agreed with the title ! As a small scripting language or a config language (eg: Neovim, also, Wez, thanks for making Wezterm LUA configured !) it’s a really easy to use and understand and the perfect middle ground between a static config like JSON, TOML or YAML and a scripting language like JS, Python or Ruby.

Lua is perfect both for quick learning and for easy embedding! Especially when compared to the absolute madness of the build process for “some famous” JavaScript engines (and their ugly and absolutely insane interoperability API…)!
Coroutines in Lua naturally avoid all such async/await proliferation like it happens in JS and Python (in Lua coroutine.yield can be arbitrarily nested without “infecting” all the nesting functions with async/await! Coroutines in Lua can yield and resume at any point, allowing for more flexible and readable asynchronous code.)
Iterator protocol is simple and easily cooperates with coroutine.wrap (instead of inventing separate “generator thing” in addition to “async/await” as JS/Python do)
I wish all the JS to be replaced with Lua just because of this:

Agree 100% One of the first things I’ve done, learning new languages, is to try and play an mp3 with it. It took me a long time to come up with a useful easy path to that using Perl on windows (think Win32::Mediaplayer…)
This did the trick in Lua:

i love lua, and imo python feels a bit bloated, i make games using love2d and ive LOVED the simplicity and how you can do so much with basic functions!
