Google engineer Sean Christopherson has posted seven new patches to prepare Linux's KVM virtualization for Intel's Advanced Performance Extensions (APX), which debuts with Nova Lake and Diamond Rapids processors. The patches focus on expanding KVM's register tracking and storage to support APX's increase of general-purpose registers from 16 to 32. While Linux 6.16+ and recent open-source compilers already support APX, KVM support is still being finalized, which is particularly important for Xeon Diamond Rapids server deployments.
