Hyprland is a Wayland compositor that breaks from traditional Linux desktop conventions by offering a tiling workflow, keyboard-driven control, and deep configuration through plain text files. Unlike full desktop environments like GNOME or KDE Plasma, Hyprland requires users to assemble their own components (launcher, bar, notifications, etc.), but rewards that effort with a fast, visually polished, and highly personal desktop. The initial setup takes time, and Wayland compatibility with some apps can still be a hurdle, but the config-file approach makes it easy to port your setup across machines. Several distros ship with Hyprland preconfigured for an easier start.
