Valve developers have contributed a Linux kernel patch that improves VRAM allocation for GPUs with 8 GB or less of video memory. Previously, the kernel was incorrectly swapping video memory to system RAM, causing stutters and performance issues in games. The fix allows the kernel to properly address available VRAM, with one example showing Cyberpunk 2077 gaining access to an additional 1.4 GB of previously inaccessible GPU memory (from 6 GB to 7.4 GB effectively used).
