Linux 7.1 will change its default behavior when encountering fatal ACPI errors: instead of just logging the error and continuing, the kernel will attempt to power off the system automatically. This aligns Linux with the ACPI specification, which requires the OS to perform a controlled shutdown upon fatal ACPI events. Users who want to preserve the old behavior can set the new kernel parameter `acpi.poweroff_on_fatal=0`. The change is currently queued in the linux-pm 'linux-next' branch.
