A patch queued for Linux 7.1 adds support for advertising AVX-512 BMM (Bit Matrix Multiply) instructions to KVM guest VMs. AVX-512 BMM is a new ISA feature in AMD's upcoming Zen 6 processors, enabling bit matrix multiply and bit reversal operations. The KVM change is minimal — it only needs to expose the relevant CPUID feature bits to guests, with no additional intercept controls required. The patch has been queued into kvm-x86 and is expected to be submitted during the Linux 7.1 merge window later in April 2026.
