Linux 7.1 has merged the Apple SMC power driver via the Multi-Function Device (MFD) subsystem, enabling reporting of AC status, battery charging status, and power metrics for Apple Silicon MacBooks under the mainline kernel. Originally developed by Hector Martin for Asahi Linux, the driver required refactoring and improvements to meet upstream kernel standards. The MFD pull also adds new PCI device IDs for Intel Nova Lake H platforms.
