Linux 7.1 has merged a new NTFS driver (originally called NTFSPlus) that significantly improves file access performance between Windows and Linux partitions. Benchmarks show single-threaded write speeds 3-5% faster, multi-threaded writes 35-110% faster, and mounting a 4TB drive roughly 4x faster compared to the existing NTFS3 driver. The change, four years in the making, addresses long-standing stagnation in NTFS3 and should make dual-booting a more seamless experience.
