Linux 7.1 addresses a severe performance regression in Sheaves, the per-CPU caching layer that became default for all caches in Linux 7.0. The regression, reported by a Red Hat engineer, affected cross-CPU Slab allocation on systems with memory-less NUMA nodes. The fix was too invasive to backport to Linux 7.0, so it is being delivered in Linux 7.1 as part of the SLAB subsystem updates.
