Linux 7.0 removes the ability to sign new kernel modules with SHA-1 due to security vulnerabilities that enable hash collisions. The kernel has defaulted to SHA-512 since version 6.11, and major distributions have already moved away from SHA-1. Existing modules signed with SHA-1 can still be loaded for backward compatibility.
