Linus Torvalds has released Linux 7.0, the kernel version shipping with Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. Key highlights include Phase II swap subsystem improvements delivering up to 20% better throughput, EXT4 concurrent direct I/O write improvements, a new generic filesystem error reporting framework via fsnotify, XFS self-healing via a systemd-managed background daemon, Intel TSX re-enabled by default on unaffected 10th gen+ CPUs for multi-threaded performance gains, and mainline hardware-accelerated H.264/H.265 decoding for Rockchip RK3588/RK3576 SBCs.
