Linux 7.0 kernel includes an EFI framebuffer quirk specifically for the Steam Deck to fix console rendering corruption. The Steam Deck has an 800x1280 portrait screen mounted in landscape orientation, and when firmware offers a software-rotated 1280x800 mode that GRUB switches to, framebuffer drivers see this fake mode causing corrupted fbcon rendering. The new quirk detects this specific mode and corrects it back to native resolution, allowing DRM-based framebuffer drivers to detect the proper mode, apply panel orientation fixes, and render the console correctly in landscape mode.
