Linux 7.0 is adding support for three new standardized HID keycodes designed for AI-native laptop workflows, beyond the existing Microsoft Copilot key. The new keys cover 'Action on Selection' (perform AI actions on highlighted content), 'Contextual Insertion' (trigger overlay to search/generate content for insertion), and 'Contextual Query' (trigger contextual suggestions from selected text or images). These keycodes were recently approved in the USB HID Usage Tables, with Google contributing to both the HID proposal and the Linux kernel patch. The additions are expected to appear on upcoming laptops and PCs.
