The Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP), used for online gaming, IP telephony, and multimedia streaming, is set to be removed from the Linux kernel in the upcoming v6.16 cycle. DCCP has seen little maintenance and user adoption in recent years, making its upkeep burdensome. The removal will also benefit TCP optimization in the Linux kernel.
