Why I stopped consuming content at 2x speed, and the simple rule that changed how I listen to everything.

Consuming content at 2x speed has become a productivity badge, but it often stems from FOMO and anxiety rather than genuine efficiency. Slowing down to 1x speed forces intentional content selection: if something isn't worth full attention, it's not worth consuming at all. This approach reduces throughput but increases retention, enjoyment, and creates mental space for original thinking. The constant optimization for consuming more content leaves no room for boredom, which is where ideas emerge and learning gets processed. Switching to 1x acts as a quality filter, making you ruthless about what deserves your time.

We need to be careful not to replace the feeling of true achievement by the cheaper “I did it fast.”
One attribute to develop is the confidence and assurance that the work gets be done when it gets done. Estimate, then go to work and learn to communicate with management along the way.
Don’t rush for the appearance of being great. Do it at “1x playback” speed (not less, not more) and build the confidence to keep working until things get done.

I’ve tested 1.5x or 2x but I found that you missed tone and intentions in what is said
In the same way, it is useless to have 5 social networks just to watch guys speaking about how to improve your life…
I don’t have social networks except linkedin (I go on one or two times a month) and if I want to watch videos, I go on YouTube.
And if I have a little times and I don’t know what to do, I go on daily.dev or on the Google actuality on my android to read some interesting content (and not what happens in a man or a woman life that I don’t care)
