Salesforce has released a local MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for Salesforce DX in Developer Preview, enabling AI agents in IDEs like Cursor and Claude Desktop to interact more effectively with Salesforce development tools. The MCP server provides structured access to common Salesforce DX operations like metadata deployment, org queries, and permission management, eliminating the inefficiencies of agents trying to use CLI commands directly. Available via NPM and GitHub, it includes seven core tools grouped into logical toolsets and works with already authenticated orgs. This is part of Salesforce's broader MCP strategy that includes both local servers for developers and hosted servers for business automation.
