It seems like the author should take a break from work.

I agree that today software engineering is often getting unnecessarily too complex. However this article is going too extreme, and in certain topics author seems to be not very knowledgeable. Try to develop complex software with millions of lines of code and hundreds of endpoints with plain TS and CURL testing :)

The economy in general is defined by booms and busts (even if the media tries to pretend there is no bust to maintain investor confidence). Surges and declines is just rebranding a super basic economics principle and then applying it to technology as if it is still a single salient market factor when truthfully it has become several separate aspects of the post-modern economy, each of which will have their own booms and busts.
Here is the big secret from economics though: chasing the booms is just a way to go absolutely broke, your portfolio as an investor should be widely diversified to already contain things important in recessions before they are bought up at the recessions beginnings (utilities stock, gold, silver, essential needs that don’t go away even when doom and gloom come home to roost) and with a wide enough net that any sector taking off will benefit you too (mutual funds and etfs are a decent way to do this, up to a point of course and speak to your advisor if you have one before making any financially important decisions).
When it comes to which emerging technologies you absolutely should invest time into learning to “future proof” your skills, pick something and stick to deepening that knowledge. If you pick crypto now, when its not as hot as it has been, when it is hot again you will be knowledgeable enough to make money with your mature skills that are suddenly super desirable. Same with AI, you will have to weather when it cools off but your skills will be hot again with patience. In economics, impulsiveness leads to loosing all your money in the commodity market, few ever get rich from impulse and if they do its merely luck and lost soon enough.
As for .Net, no thanks Microsoft. I already have to deal with the typescript nightmare enough

Frameworks and tools with GUIs aid in the efficient development of complex programs and systems. I couldn’t even imagine having to manually configure curl commands, complete with correctly formatting header and meta data to test my projects. The act of doing testing this way becomes 80% about setting things up correctly and 20% about testing the thing you actually want to test. I don’t need to do that because Postman does all the heavy lifting for me.
I love JavaScript but I also couldn’t live without TypeScript. If I have to do a find all for every single obscurely named variable in JavaScript because I have zero type information on a component I’d spend 10x the amount of time doing simple tasks.
I think the article started off promising, but after a while it branched into a misguided rant on the state of development as a whole. There are an overwhelming amount of frameworks, libraries and tools that exist today. It’s important to just pick a set of these things and learn to use them effectively.
I don’t think it’s the frameworks that are the issue, maybe more of the short-sighted excitement humans get from the idea of “creating the next best thing” and encouraging folks to roll out a new framework every single year. A perfect example of this is VueJS and Angular (2+, not 1.x). The creator of VueJS was a core developer on the Angular team and he spun off and did his own thing. There’s nothing wrong with that. I still prefer Angular but I know some folks swear by VueJS.
Whatever gets you from point A to point B successfully is what you should go with. If you want to write everything from scratch nobody is going to stop you. But I’m willing to bet that over time you’ll most likely end up indirectly creating components that resemble the parts of a framework that already exists. Simply because that’s why they have been created in the first place.
I have my own anecdote to prove this. Years ago I wrote in PHP. I then began learning C# and along with it I started getting spoiled by things like List&lt;T&gt; and Dictionary&lt;T,T&gt;. So, I went over to PHP, nothing like that existed, and I began writing my own classes to mimic this feature. Somebody finally called me out and said, “You know, at some point if you keep piecing classes together in PHP like that you’re ultimately going to be writing in C#, so why not just rip the band-aid off and write in C#?”
NOTE: I’m well aware of the fact that PHP and C# are languages and not libraries or frameworks. It’s just a tangential point I’m making.

I’ll upvote because fighting against over-engineered crap is good.
Still, none of the proposed solutions work for large projects.
We have a huge Golang project here and it’s been over-engineered to death. The only thing that works against complexity is not changing technology but using common sense and getting rid of ego fights and framework propaganda.
And yes, for each microservice, we have curl endpoint testing in a makefile, real, global, automated tests are done in pytest.
