Lesli 5.1 is the first official stable release of a Ruby on Rails framework designed for building modular, long-term business software. Originally started in 2014 as a PHP project for small businesses in Guatemala, it was rebuilt in Rails starting in 2019. This release marks the completion of a two-year effort to remove proprietary code, migrate the frontend from a Vue SPA to Hotwire, and open-source the project. Lesli provides a modular architecture using Rails engines, authentication, permissions, audit capabilities, notifications, shared UI components, and reusable business module patterns. It targets developers who want stronger structure for larger Rails applications without abandoning Rails conventions.
