Law enforcement agencies from 14 countries, coordinated by Europol, have seized LeakBase, one of the world's largest cybercriminal marketplaces for stolen data and hacking tools. The operation, which began March 3, included around 100 enforcement actions, arrests, house searches, and the seizure of two domains and the forum's database containing credentials, card numbers, and bank account data from 142,000 users. Security experts caution that while the takedown sends a strong signal, practical impact will be limited: sophisticated threat actors leave few traces, many operate from non-extradition jurisdictions, and criminal ecosystems typically migrate quickly to alternative platforms like Telegram. Experts recommend infosec leaders track metrics such as credential-stuffing attempts and data reappearance on alternate forums to gauge the real-world impact of such takedowns.
