An international law enforcement coalition led by the FBI and Europol has shut down First VPN, a VPN service used by at least 25 ransomware gangs and other cybercriminals. The service operated servers in 27 countries and was marketed specifically to criminals on Russian-speaking forums, promising anonymity and no-log policies. Europol dismantled dozens of servers, arrested the administrator, and notified thousands of identified users — the result of an investigation launched in December 2021.
