Language Stats

I am sad to see Go at the bottom. I really enjoy reading and writing go code. Maybe I should give Python a try.

JavaScript and TypeScript will probably switch places soon.

The JavaScript number should include the TypeScript number - which would put JavaScript over everything else. TypeScript is literally just JavaScript with type-annotations.
I mean, what, are we going to count JSDoc as a separate language too? It gets parsed and type-checked and compiled to JS the same as TypeScript, so?
How about JSX? We count that as JavaScript because the file extension matches, but it’s not valid JavaScript and you can’t deploy it without compiling it first. But for some reason, JSX isn’t counted as a language?
I don’t know who decides how to count language stats for a survey like this, but my guess is, it’s been pointed out before, that none of this makes any sense, but they won’t change it because the results
would look completely different and couldn’t be related to past results then. 🤨

Nicely done graph. The raw numbers would be very insightful to back it up. E.g. I don’t think that the abs No of JS users is decreasing but just increasing at a lower rate compared to Py, TS and other rising stars.
