KubeVirt v1.8 has been released at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe, introducing a Hypervisor Abstraction Layer that extends support beyond KVM to additional backend hypervisors. The update also adds Kubernetes 1.35 support, Intel TDX Attestation for confidential computing, PCIe NUMA topology awareness for AI workloads, an incremental backup tool, ContainerPath volume support, and promotes the `passt` network binding to a core feature. Scalability tests show the control plane handles up to 8000 VMIs with modest memory growth. The project, maintained under CNCF since 2019, aims to let teams run legacy VM-based and cloud-native containerized applications on the same Kubernetes control plane, reducing infrastructure costs.
