The Kubernetes SIG Apps group has launched the Agent Sandbox project, a new Custom Resource Definition (CRD) designed specifically for running AI agent workloads. Traditional Kubernetes primitives like StatefulSets and PersistentVolumeClaims are poorly suited for agentic workloads, which are stateful, need persistent identity, and must start near-instantly. Agent Sandbox provides a declarative API for single-entity stateful workloads, dedicated hostnames and network addresses for inter-agent communication, support for secure runtimes like gVisor and Kata Containers, and a SandboxWarmPool resource to eliminate cold starts. A Python client and example templates are available, and the project is installable via kubectl. Version 0.21 was released recently.
