A new Typescript-based SDK from Kong is designed to let developers create AI agents. Kong also announced expansions to its AI Gateway.

Kong launched Volcano, an open source TypeScript SDK for building AI agents with native Model Context Protocol (MCP) support. Unlike existing frameworks like LangChain or Haystack, Volcano was designed from the ground up around MCP, enabling developers to create multi-model workflows where different LLMs can be used at different stages. The SDK supports thousands of models from major vendors and can build agents in as few as 15 lines of code. Kong also expanded its AI Gateway with automatic MCP server generation from APIs, centralized OAuth 2.1 authentication for agents, and an AI Integration Composer for mapping API endpoints as MCP tools.
