The Linux Experiment

KDE Plasma 6.6 brings extensive improvements including a new systemd-based login manager, reduced RAM consumption by ~100MB, better HDR and color management, enhanced multi-monitor support, and the ability to save custom global themes. The window manager (KWin) received significant Wayland refinements, improved screen mirroring, and better external display handling. Widgets gained new features like QR code Wi-Fi connections and improved task manager behavior. System Monitor now supports per-GPU temperature monitoring and process priority controls. The release focuses heavily on quality-of-life improvements and Wayland maturity ahead of the planned Wayland-only 6.8 release in early 2027.
